AYURVEDA, DRAWBACKS
Ayurveda has been upto an extent successful in managing with chronic life style diseases, which the patients believe has no side effects and would provide them with a better life if not the best. But inspite of enormous amounts of patients with auto immune diseases, degenerative and neurological disorders, spine related disorders coming to ayurveda from the allopathic stream of medicene, its development seems to be still in its infancy. The reason being unsystematised efforts, profit based institutions without any intentions to spread the knowledge, lack of genuine research on the subjects that need to be researched, lack of proper know how, lack of competent professionals etc. Many physicians still do carry with the same modality of cilnical diagnosis as mentioned in their texts of Susrutha, Charaka and Astanga Hrudaya with blindfolded belief, saying these where aptas and their words must not be put to introspection. The very concept of tridosa theory seems to be highly speculative to the beginner, and is enough to bog his spirits down. It does not satisfy his logic. The tri dosa theory is a working theory but who knows how to spot the dosic vitiations ? Who can spot out vata, pitta, kapha....these are just concepts intended to create an idea about the functioning of the human body. How can you treat diseases and diagnose a disease with just concepts, for arriving at a conclusion you need facts in the first place. These diagnostic tools are outdated for sure and should be abolished from the main stream. The ayurvedic concept of pathya in terms of ahara and vihara are very helpful in aiding the treatment course. They act as medicenes. Instead diagnosing a disease as vata rakta or ama vatha, one should essentially diagnose diseases in a universally accepted manner. Controls and standardisations must be brought into action to maintain a uniformity in the treatment schedules whereever ayurveda is done. For that research must be carried into that procedures which are still in practise in ayurveda that may pose harm for the body, or classify them as tretments with risk involved and use specialists only for those kind of treatments. The academics in ayurveda is just a waste of time with no use for the students, patients as well as teachers. Five and a half years of academics does not give you any idea about your profession, it does not enable you to treat a patient, you are not even able to handle even a simple case, just due to lack of confidence. The students dont know to communicate with the patients inorder to know the diseases , in which ever system they may diagnose, although they have the option to do so in allopathic way also, if not prescribe it ! Ayurveda must meet up with modern clinical standards, if it is meant in curing a disease. Then only can Ayurveda can gain some authenticity.
