The Joy of Connecting With Others

Ulterior Motives
How goals, both seen and unseen, drive behavior by Art Markman, Ph.D.

The Joy of Connecting With Others
Stop avoiding conversations with strangers on buses, planes, and taxis.
Published on November 19, 2014 by Art Markman, Ph.D. in Ulterior Motives

I fly a lot. I have a typical routine on the plane. I pull out something to read or perhaps an iPad to watch a movie. I do my work. I don’t generally engage in much conversation with the person sitting next to me on the plane, though sometimes I end up in a long conversation. Invariably, those conversations are great fun. An interesting question is whether my travel would be more enjoyable if I engaged in more conversations with people I meet on the plane? This issue was addressed in a fascinating paper by Nick Epley and Juliana Schroeder that appeared in the October, 2014 issue of the Journal of Experimental Psychology: General.

In two field experiments, they demonstrate that people generally avoid having conversations with strangers when commuting. One study used train commuters, and a second used bus commuters. During their commute, some participants were asked to imagine that they were told to have a conversation with another commuter they didn’t know before. A second participant was asked to imagine that they were told to commute without talking to anyone. A third group got no instructions. Participants rated whether how much they thought they would enjoy their commute as well as how productive they thought they would be. Art Markman, Ph.D., is a cognitive scientist at the University of Texas whose research spans a range of topics in the way people think.

One other study asked commuters a variety of questions and found that they underestimate how willing other people would be to talk to them. So, commuters feel that they are much more interested having people choose to talk to them than other people are in being talked to. As a result, people avoid striking up conversations for fear of bothering another person. In addition, one study found that some people are able to predict their enjoyment of engaging in these random conversations. This study looked at people taking taxis leaving from an airport. Some participants were actually asked to engage in a conversation with the driver or to enjoy the solitude. As with the other studies, those who had a conversation with the driver enjoyed the ride more than those who did not.

In a second study, participants predicted their enjoyment. Those who routinely engage in conversations with the driver recognized that they enjoy the ride more when they talk than when they don’t. People who rarely converse with the driver did not recognize that they would enjoy their ride more if they talked with the driver.

A final study examined another possibility. Perhaps the people who initiate conversations enjoy them, but those who do not initiate the conversations enjoy them less. That is, maybe the conversation is only positive for the initiator. This study was done in a psychology lab. Participants were waiting for the study to start. Some participants were instructed either to engage in a conversation with a second participant in the waiting room or to avoid having a conversation. Afterward, both participants were asked about how much they enjoyed the wait. Both the participant who initiated the conversation and the noninitiator enjoyed the wait more when they had a conversation.

Putting this all together, then, it seems like most of us are missing out on a big opportunity to enjoy our life just a little more. Many of us travel on trains, planes, busses, and taxis. In those settings, we elect to protect ourselves from interactions with other people. Yet, these data suggest that most of us would enjoy ourselves more if we had conversations with the strangers who sit near us rather than walling ourselves off. These findings are particularly interesting, because technology makes it easier than ever to avoid connecting with strangers. Almost everywhere you go, people are engaged with smart phones and tablets. Because of those devices, we avoid connecting with real live people who are next to us. And it seems that we are missing out by doing so

National Doctors' Day

National Doctors' Day

History

The United States Senate and the House of
Representatives, on October 30, 1990, President George
Bush signed S.J. RES. #366 (which became Public Law
101-473) designating March 30, 1991 as the day to
celebrate this holiday.

Cuba
In Cuba , in Cuba this holiday (December 3)
commemorates the Birthday of Carlos Juan Finlay.
Carlos J. Finlay (December 3, 1833 – August 20, 1915)
was a Cuban physician and scientist recognized as a
pioneer in yellow fever research. He was the first to
theorize, in 1881, that a mosquito was a carrier, now
known as a disease vector, of the organism causing
yellow fever: a mosquito that bites a victim of the disease
could subsequently bite and thereby infect a healthy
person. A year later Finlay identified a mosquito of the
genus Aedes as the organism transmitting yellow fever.
His theory was followed by the recommendation to
control the mosquito population as a way to control the
spread of the disease.

Iran
In Iran, Avicenna's birthday (Iranian Month:Shahrivar
1st=August 23) is commemorated as the national day for
physicians

India
Also celebrated on July 1 all across India (1) to honour
the legendary physician and the second Chief Minister of
West Bengal , Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy . He was born on
July 1, 1882 and died on the same date in 1962, aged 80
years. Dr Roy was honoured with the country's highest
civilian award, Bharat Ratna on February 4, 1961.
Every year this holiday is celebrated in India on the 1st of
July. This observance fulfills a need to show the doctors
and physicians in our lives how important they are to us
and how invaluable their treatments are that cure us. The
celebrations are indicative of the respect that they
command in the lives of their patients and thus obligate
them to fulfill their responsibilities as well.
There are several ways that this day is observed,
including the greeting of physicians by their patients with
greeting cards, flower arrangements. Special meeting are
often convened to commemorate the day and honor
doctors for their performances. Commemorative dinners
can also be arranged by hospitals or other organizations
to felicitate the medical fraternity.
There may be several reasons that can be attributed to
the significance of a this honor being celebrated in India.
The large population of India depends on the efficiency
and responsibility of physicians to a large extent at all
times Medical professionals in India over the years have
shown remarkable improvements and made definite
progress in medical treatments that need to be
acknowledged· It may also be seen as an encouragement
and an eye opener to all such doctors who have been
struck by a failing career owing to a lack of commitmen
There have been instances of public violence and protests
against doctors when they have failed to perform. This
holiday could be seen as an approach by the same
people as a mark of respect for all those doctors who
have relentlessly made efforts to sustain the life of their
patients against all odds

Vietnam
Vietnam founded Doctor's Day on February 27, 1955. The
day is celebrated on February 27 or sometimes dates
closest to this date. [1]

Recognizing This Holiday
Commonly celebrated in healthcare organizations a to
recognize the contributions of physicians to individual
lives and communities. These events are typically
organized by staff at a healthcare organization. Staff may
organize a lunch for doctor's present the physician with a
token of recognition.

Understanding ANGER by understanding MIND !!! Anger is good !!!

KNOW YOUR ANGER
Isn’t your anger the main villain in your life ? For those who have spent enormous amounts of time thinking of how to control this emotion ?....It is the emotions give life in the journey of humans, that make us a living being, the expressions ! As seven colours combine and form a magnificent rainbow, so does the wide variety of emotions that a human expresses adds colour to life.Emotions may be defined in simple (layman) words as  the positive or negative reactions towards an object, an incident or a situation that may be experienced or felt. It influences the thought, decisions and action of the person involved.Emotions are the magnetic forces resposible for attraction or repulsion towards anything. It also helps in understanding a person and thereby help in conditioning themselves accordingly. Here, emotions as said earlier should not be classified as positive or negative, it is wrong to do so, because nature has designed it for the good of humans.

ANALYSIS OF ANGER
I recollect an incident where an invigilator behaved rudely with me. I reacted by saying “sir ! I think you should behave a little bit more politely towards students. He immediately responded , ‘’are you teaching me how to behave ? “, and thus by saying this he took away my hall ticket. I strongly reacted again, “please sir give me the card or else say the reason why you are taking it !” Atlast, the problem was solved by other invigilators interferring. After writing the exams, I calmly analysed this incident. I found out three reasons that provoked me to react in such a manner. The primary reason was that , the exam was a bit difficult. The second reason was that in an earlier exam, the person had behaved rudely with me. I connected the above incident with this and thus came to a conclusion that he intentionally behaved rudely with me so as to embarrass me. The third and final reason was that , the rude behaviour itself acted as a trigger for bringing out the past memories in me in the form of arguments. So may be we get angry because of the involvement of past memories also, which we may not be conscious of.

There may be internal and external reasons for anger. They are :

INTERNAL
1.unfulfilled desires
2.self depraisal
3.desire for power
4.guilt
5.rejection
6.the inbuilt concepts of right and wrong
7.ill-health
8.so called negative expressions or attitudes or behaviours

EXTERNAL
1.Relations
2.Work related stress
3.Surrounding environment
4.Intoxication mainly alcohol
5.Condition of the society
6.Conflict of cultures and media
7.Situations
-One of the main reasons for anger are the inability to fulfil tasks and not getting enough rewards
-Asking or rather provoking a boy, by saying “are you a boy ?”  is the apt example for self depraisal . This questions targets specifically on his personality and hits the target provided he has a low self esteem, and thus he reacts to defend his personality by anger.
-The need for power and to influence other is one of the basic desires of human being. The persons who have high thirst for power will react strongly towards the people who seem to cause obstruction towards it.
-Suppose a person has commited an offense such a stealing colleagues money, mentioning that specific incident makes him restless and he is prone to react quickly. So persons carrying guilt react quicly.
-Those persons who are rejected from a group get angry quickly. The rejection from the society and family causes pain, hatred and enimity in the mind of the person.
-If you do anything injustifically, the instinct of ones judjement of right and wrong provokes to act against this situation by means of anger.
-Due to improper sleep, due to hereditary inherited traits, due to any diseases, due to lethargy , due to hypertension a person may get angry quickly.

(THREE PILLARS OF SELF ESTEEM
There are three pillars of self esteem, they are the realization that every human are important irrespective of their caste, creed or socio-economic status, the next is the thing called as unconditional love that remains within us all, that pervades us all, when we concentrate on this phenomena within us we are able to behave with everyone in a pleasant manner. The third is the realization that every human being deserves to be respected and loved in the same way as others, which paves for the internal as well as his external development, reducing his vibrations.)

-The personal habits and behavioural patterns influence how a person reacts to a situation , so it is important from the part of the person to cultivate good habits and behaviours.
-The family is the basic unit of society and that provides all sorts of security for a person. Problems in the family undoubtedly affect a person, may it be financial troubles, ill-health of relatives, quarrels with spouses, mother, father or brothers or sisters etc. So it is important to maintain a stable familial relationship to reduce anger.
-Problems that happen in our society such as,  excessive physical strain due to travelling, over talking in phones and other social networking sites, over engagement with relatives, problems of coping with neighbours, religious responsibilities, conflict of view points of the society etc…
-Unhealthy food habits do cause over reactivity. For healthy food habits do follow the below instructions. Regular and foods with proper nutrition. Do not consume excessive foods. Eat foods that are prepared form the home only. Drink lots of water, approximately about 12 glasses of water. Consume lots of fruits and vegetables, especially green leafy vegetables. During fasting drink lots of water. Obese persons should avoid over consumption, skipping a meal would help ! Eat different types of food. While eating do eat slowly and show respect towards the food that you eat by a small prayer before eating ! Its good ! Does good !
-Attitude plays a large role in anger. Negatitivity or rejection are a type of attitiude that is responsible for anger, which is the unacceptance of unfavourable realities. Not hearing things said or acting like, acting like sleeping, not seeing things intentionally, giddiness and vertigo, not giving proper attention to things said and not concentrating, showing excessive busyness….these are some coping mechanisms to escape from unfavourable realities.
-Repressed emotions due to conditioning of the soceity are another cause of anger.
-Showing anger towards a person since he may be angry with his wife or friends or family.
-For covering up ones own failures a person may react angrily when reminded, just like a person asking for more rest after getting injured, just to avoid work and responsibilities.
-Day dreaming without proper efforts for that dream to be realized, may result in person getting angry over silly situations, in not getting things done, when he had not taken any initiatives.

HOW TO AVOID ANGER ?
A sensitive heart is like a colour ful garden , that attracts butterflies. That heart which is full of love and goodness is sure to attract many persons and is the reason for many success stories. Such individuals can tolerate external vibrations from other persons , can understand them, and can give them relief. To understand oneself and others is the first step towards compassion. Hearts unite when understanding grows. This leads to self less love between individuals. So instead of bogging your mind of unnecessary thoughts and doubts about your future and career, lend an ear to what others say, understand them, may be they need you and that you be of some help, which if you do can change the whole scenario and may put an end to the vicious circle of hatred and anger. Accept other persons devoid of their right and wrong, goodness and badness, acceptance and non-acceptance. Patience is the next ingredient for compassion. It helps in forgetting the scars of past mistakes, learning from them and moving forward, it also gets us rid of negative thoughts, rejective thoughts as mentioned earlier.

ATTITUDE TOWARDS ANGER
How we take anger to be , how we see it plays an important role in anger influencing our lives. That view point influences how we face the future. Provided the fact that there is a general rule that one should control emotions, anger should not be viewed as a negative emotion ! I don’t dream of a world that is without quarrel, hate and fight. We make toddlers cry and then we make him happy by giving sweets. We did this so very easily to fight and then to join later during our childhood, but don’t know what happened when we grew up, we somehow forgot that behavior, we fought but forgot to join later, making all relationships brittle and temporary. All the laughter and cry became a pseudo act without any genuinity ! What a pity ! Consciousness is the key to the development and nourishment of ones life . Depending upon how much a person understands himself , that much he has self respect. The complexity of ones own mind can be understood only in the depth of ones own thought. An individual is given merit based on how he handles the situation after the episodes of anger as these are inevitable. When you get anger the relation scatter into pieces, that phenomena being inevitable, your value lies in hoe quickly you are able to refit those pieces, may be better than before ! The sweet melody while refitting the pieces makes you acceptable. All that glitters is not gold, is one of the oldest and most popular proverbs, that we have heard since childhood. Just as we ignore the beauty of blackness, the same way we ignore anger, the purpose and necessity of it. According to Charles Darwin, theory of the survival of the fittest, anger and fear are the two primary instincts or emotions that are seen in all organisms including human, that helps towards its survival, but the only difference is in their expression of these emotions and the intensity. So anger is good, if it causes good !!!

9 Ways to Take Care of Yourself When You Have Depression

9 Ways to Take Care of Yourself When You Have Depression

9 Ways to Take Care of Yourself When You Have Depression
By MARGARITA TARTAKOVSKY, M.S. Associate Editor 9 Ways to Take Care of Yourself When You Have Depression“Depression is an illness that requires a good deal of self-care,” writes psychologist Deborah Serani, PsyD, in her excellent book Living with Depression: Why Biology and Biography Matter along the Path to Hope and Healing. But this might seem easier said than done, because when you have depression, the idea of taking care of anything feels like adding another boulder to your already heavy load. Serani understands firsthand the pain and exhaustion of depression. In addition to helping clients manage their depression, Serani works to manage her own, and shares her experiences in Living with Depression. If you’re feeling better, you might ditch certain self-care habits, too. Maybe you skip a few therapy sessions, miss your medication or shirk other treatment tools. According to Serani, as some people improve, they get relaxed about their treatment plan, and before they know it are blinded to the warning signs and suffer a relapse. Because skimping on self-care is a slippery slope to relapse, Serani provides readers with effective tips in her book. As a whole, the best things you can do to stave off relapse are to stick to your treatment plan and create a healthy environment. I’ve summarized her valuable suggestions below.
1. Attend your therapy sessions. As you’re feeling better, you might be tempted to skip a session or two or five. Instead, attend all sessions, and discuss your reluctance with your therapist. If changes are warranted, Serani says, you and your therapist can make the necessary adjustments. Either way, discussing your reluctance can bring about important insights. As Serani writes: Personally, the times I skipped sessions with my therapist showed me that I was avoiding profound subjects — or that I was reacting defensively to something in my life. Talking instead of walking showed me how self-defeating patterns were operating and that I needed to address these tendencies.
2. Take your meds as prescribed. Missing a dose can interfere with your medication’s effectiveness, and your symptoms might return. Alcohol and drugs also can mess with your meds. Stopping medication altogether might trigger discontinuation syndrome. If you’d like to stop taking your medication, don’t do it on your own. Talk with your prescribing physician so you can get off your medication slowly and properly. Serani is diligent about taking her antidepressant medication and talks with her pharmacist frequently to make sure that over-the-counter medicines don’t interfere. With the help of her doctor, Serani was able to stop taking her medication. But her depression eventually returned. She writes: …At first, it was upsetting to think that my neurobiology required ongoing repair and that I’d be one of the 20 percent of individuals who need medication for the rest of their lives. Over time, I came to view my depression as a chronic condition — one that required me to take medication much like a child with diabetes takes insulin, an adult with epilepsy takes antiseizure medication, or someone with poor eyesight wears glasses…
3. Get enough sleep. Sleep has a big impact on mood disorders. As Serani explains, too little sleep exacerbates mania and too much sleep worsens depression. So it’s important to keep a consistent sleep and wake cycle along with maintaining healthy sleeping habits. Sometimes adjusting your medication can help with sleep. Your doctor might prescribe a different dose or have you take your medication at a different time. For instance, when Serani started taking Prozac, one of the side effects was insomnia. Her doctor suggested taking the medication in the morning, and her sleeping problems dissipated. For Serani, catnaps help with her fatigue. But she caps her naps at 30 minutes. She also doesn’t tackle potentially stressful tasks before bed, such as paying bills or making big decisions. (If you’re struggling with insomnia, here’s an effective solution, which doesn’t have the side effects of sleep aids.)
4. Get moving. Depression’s debilitating and depleting effects make it difficult to get up and get moving. Serani can relate to these effects. She writes: The lethargy of depression can make exercise seem like impossibility. I know, I grew roots and collected dust when I was anchored to my depression. I can still recall how getting out of bed was a feat in and of itself. I could barely fight gravity to sit up. My body was so heavy and everything hurt. But moving helps decrease depression. Instead of feeling overwhelmed, start small with gentle movements like stretching, deep breathing, taking a shower or doing household chores. When you can, add more active activities such as walking, yoga or playing with your kids or whatever it is you enjoy. It might help to get support, too. For instance, Serani scheduled walking dates with her neighbors. She also prefers to run errands and do household chores every day so she’s moving regularly.
5. Eat well. We know that nourishing our bodies with vitamins and minerals is key to our health. The same is true for depression. Poor nutrition can actually exacerbate exhaustion and impact cognition and mood. Still, you might be too exhausted to shop for groceries or make meals. Serani suggests checking out online shopping options. Some local markets and stores will offer delivery services. Or you can ask your loved ones to cook a few meals for you. Another option is Meals-on-Wheels, which some religious and community organizations offer.
6. Know your triggers. In order to prevent relapse, it’s important to know what pushes your buttons and worsens your functioning. For instance, Serani is selective with the people she lets into her life, makes sure to keep a balanced calendar, doesn’t watch violent or abuse-laden films (the movie “Sophie’s Choice” sidelined her for weeks) and has a tough time tolerating loud or excessively stimulating environments. Once you pinpoint your triggers, express them to others so your boundaries are honored.
7. Avoid people who are toxic. Toxic individuals are like emotional vampires, who “suck the life out of you,” according to Serani. They may be envious, judgmental and competitive. If you can’t stop seeing these people in general, limit your exposure and try having healthier individuals around when you’re hanging out with the toxic ones.
8. Stay connected with others. Social isolation, Serani writes, is your worst enemy. She schedules plans with friends, tries to go places she truly enjoys and has resources on hand when she’s somewhere potentially uncomfortable, such as books and crossword puzzles. If you’re having a difficult time connecting with others, volunteer, join a support group or find like-minded people online on blogs and social media sites, she suggests. You also can ask loved ones to encourage you to socialize when you need it. Living with Depression
9. Create a healthy space. According to Serani, “… research says that creating a nurturing space can help you revitalize your mind, body and soul.” She suggests opening the shades and letting sunlight in. There’s also evidence that scent can minimize stress, improve sleep and boost immunity. Lemon and lavender have been shown to improve depression. Serani says that you can use everything from essential oils to candles to soap to incense. She prefers lavender, lilac, vanilla and mango. If you’re sensitive to fragrance, she recommends diluting essential oils, buying flowers or even using dried fruit. You also can listen to music, meditate, use guided imagery, practice yoga and even de-clutter parts of your home a little each time. Serani’s last point involves empowering yourself and becoming resilient. She writes: By learning about your biology and biography, following your treatment plan, and creating a healthy environment, you don’t allow anyone to minimize you or your depression. Instead of avoiding struggles, you learn from them. You trust your own instincts and abilities because they are uniquely yours. If you experience a setback, you summon learned skills and seek help from others to get back on-point. If a person’s ignorance on mental illness presents itself in the form of a joke or stigma, you clear the air with your knowledge of neurobiology and psychology.

fB psychology

facebook, twitter, linkedin, google plus and what not, man who claims himself to be a social being , is being exploited for this very nature, in the name of social networking....what are they actually ? why do we do so many things just to grab likes an comments on such platforms ? putting all sorts of posts ranging from content level zero to

hundred ! what a bull shit ! take a walk, play soccer, chess ! swim in the river (not the pool , i wouldnt advice that), have a fight or a quarrel with your friend or spouse, but use such sights judiciously ! fB is just a media, a media where our frequency of searches influence what we see, our stupidity is as such presented to the world, without any professionalism or editing, all sorts of rubbish talks, we are not concerned abt anything serious anymore, thats the point....but there are other things in life , world is not, life is not what u see in a fB post ! man is fB'ed ! just putting forward some of the psychological influences of fB,
-people present a positive self view to others when online, leading to an increase in self esteem and decrease in self control, so dont get upset if someone nearest to you most probably your mom complains you of being such a mess lately, it could be seen in your rooms order !
-users who did not personally know friends verywell believed others had better lives leading to lower self esteem, and ofcourse depression....you are hooked for entertainment or for information right, so next time go for some read (books, libraray) or watch some of your favourite films with your family or friends, not alone...again ! go out, discover your locality !
-intimate interactions lead to an elevated self esteem ! bah ...humbug ! what's d point ? huh ? self esteem, yeah its one of the ladders of needs towards reaching self actualisation , but a false one does not lead you there, you can be your king in your thoughts, i'd say it was better dreaming around late wake ups ! its said morning dreams do come true, so lets dream ! remember what dr.kalam said ? great people always had a dream to cherish ( "i have a dream"-martin luther king) that made their life a lesson for all human beings, that made great leaders, do you expect someone to lead you, its history, lead yourself !
-its an online equivalent of staring yourself at the mirror, nothing so important about your face or mind, its about how you percieve, not about how you see !
-fB is narcissism re-invented, damn i hate that word more than anything ! such people rot their lives, "this life is too short to live it just for you, but when you feel so powerless what are you gonna do ? so say what you want ....." havent you heard it ! (powerless by nellly furtado...go get some fine musical feasto !)
-fB induces a pervasive pattern of grandiosity, need for admiration and an exaggerated sense of self importance,
so long for those fB ying, venture out and make the most of your life ! im done fB ying !
Bye !

ACHARA RASAYANA-rejuvenation through behaviour.

Acharya Rasayana – Rejuvenating through behavior
Rasayana is a deep and profound science of producing perfect health, immunity, bliss and ultimate enlightenment. Rishis have described Rasayana therapeutics so that all human beings may have a long and fruitful life where they can have sufficient time to realize their ultimate purpose of life and live a life of total devotion to the source of it all, God. There is no other aim other than to totally surrender to the Divine for out of this infinite intelligence we came and to it we return. We are just part of it but the same one but different. So this great science of Ayurveda addresses this very position we have and gives ebullient answers.

Acharya Rasayana are behavioral rejuvenatives and allow all other Rasayanas (the ones that comprise of herbal preparations) to take effect and renew our cellular intelligence. Simply by following the acharya Rasayanas one becomes renewed and rejuvenated. They are simple but many do not have the restraint to follow. Try for a little while and you will see wonders blossom.

• One should be truthful at all times

This means one should always speak the truth it is not just about lying or not but it also means one should understand absolute truth which means Vedic science and live accordingly without compromise irrespective of if the society around you is following these norms or not (most often not). One should speak and live truth, only truth.

• One should remain free from anger at all times

Anger is totally unnecessary, it shows lack of control of the mind and one should detach from the events of the movie of life and control ones expressions. The mind should be calm like a silent lake and from this calmness one should act.

• One should avoid alcohol

Alcohol clouds the mind and senses and though it gives some temporary euphoria it is destructive to health and mental peace.

• One should avoid sexual indulgence

The seminal fluid is a precious dhatu or tissue of the body and any indulgence will lead to loss of seminal fluid and thus should be avoided. Also one should try to contain sexual activity to its normal and natural context rather than allow it to control ones actions. Sex in moderation and the correct context is quite fine but one should strive to be free of constant lusty thoughts.

• One should refrain from violence

There is never any need for violence in normal behavior. Violence destroys ones health.

• One should always speak peacefully

• One should always speak pleasing things, never any harmful words

• One should chant names of god

• One should always keep the body and attire and home clean

• One should be stable and steady despite circumstances surrounding

• One should always practice charity

• One should regularly perform penance

• One should pray regularly

• One should care for all animals

• One should respect spiritual elders

• One should respect the elderly

• One should always be compassionate

• One should regulate sleep accordingly neither too much nor too little

• One should take organic raw milk and organic ghee regularly

• One should be free of ego in all actions and speech

• One should be broad minded

• One should associate with spiritually minded people

• One should be self controlled

• One should regularly study ancient texts

The rejuvenatives above are based on ones action and speech and it is something anyone can practice when putting awareness on these matters. Even if you are not 108% there you can make an effort to move in this direction. Bring more Sattva to thought and speech and rejuvenate your body and mind through your behavior.
