NOTHING-a short poetry !!!

nothing !

November 27, 2013 at 7:49pm
nothing more could i ask for,
what would one be satisfied with ?
disillisioned mind wakes ,
once you think you will......
life was not meant to be an uncontinuable saga,
until you realise how fragile you are,
the child is never going to give up....
not until he reaches his starting point !!!

No miracle cures !!!

NO MIRACLE CURES.

this is just my opinion regarding one of the TV shows where I was said, that an ayurvedic doctor claimed "he cured rheumatoid arthritis and diabetes", and one of my senior doctors commented like this about that incident "in this modern era any layman can study medicene, only quacks can make such tall claims".....
Sincerely pals, I do ask you a question, Do QUACKS exist among us, the BAMS ?...... Or is the system illgoverned, because I do hear many of such disturbing news, another such instance of an ayurvedic doctor doing unethical medical practise where , he employed a massuer who has some hereditary lineage towards treating back pain, or what people think or he claims, where the patient got paralysed......what is the future of many genuine doctors who look forward to this profession as something equal to allopathic medicene,
AYURVEDA IS NO MIRACLE CURE......any tall claims that may be made like.......Curing RA, DM which even ayurveda classifies between yapya and asadhya rogas,
Using mantr, astrology, palmistry in treating or including them too in ayurveda,
Curing alcohol induced hepatitis,
Curing psoriasis which again is auto immune,
Using so called divine spells, chicken cure for snake poison,.....
Makes a fool of us before the world.....
Please be rational......
There is no miracle cure......
There is no spontaneous recovery.....

NEW JNC 8 HYPERTENSION GUIDELINES DRAW CRITICISM

NEW JNC 8 HYPERTENSION GUIDELINES DRAW CRITICISM

Controversial new guidelines on the management of hypertension released by the 8th Joint National Committee (JNC 8) recommend higher blood pressure (BP) thresholds for treatment, prompting a mix of responses with some experts even calling for their retraction.

Essentially, the new guidelines recommend treating anyone over 60 years of age if they have a BP of ≥150/90 mmHg. For younger individuals and patients with diabetes or kidney disease regardless of age, they suggest treatment should be initiated when BP is 140/90 mm Hg or higher. [JAMA 2013; doi:10.1001/jama.2013.284427]

The major difference between the new guidelines and the previous JNC 7 guidelines focuses on whether target BP treatment goals should be more conservative. The JNC 7 recommended a target BP of <140/90 mmHg in adults and <130/80 mm Hg in those with chronic kidney disease or diabetes.

While the new guidelines raise the BP threshold, it doesn’t mean clinicians should ease up on treatment in patients doing well on medications recommended by the JNC 7 guidelines, said JNC 8 panel co-chair Dr. Paul A. James from the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa, US. “We’re not saying that if someone’s [systolic] BP is 140 or 135 mm Hg on medicine and they’re doing well that you need to take them off medicines and get their BP closer to 150. If you can consistently get people’s BP below 150 mm Hg, you really are improving their health outcomes.”

The updated guidelines also backed away from recommending only thiazide diuretics as initial therapy and suggest that an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor, an angiotensin-receptor blocker (ARB), or a calcium channel blocker (CCB), are reasonable choices.

If BP goal is not reached within a month of treatment, the recommendation is to increase the dose of the initial drug or add a second drug from the same list. If the targeted BP is not reached within 2 months, a third drug from the same list can be added and titrated. However, an ACE inhibitor and an ARB cannot be used concurrently in the same patient.

Antihypertensive drugs from other classes can be used if BP goal is not reached using only three drugs from the list. If this strategy fails, patients can be referred to hypertension specialists.

The recommendations were based on RCT evidence and differ from other guidelines that recommended treatment based on observational studies. Other guidelines, including those from the European Society of Hypertension, recommend a BP goal of <150 mmHg, but in patients >65 years of age.

Dr. Eric Peterson from the Duke Clinical Research Institute, Duke University Medical Center, Durham, North Carolina, said the new recommendations simplify the treatment targets and remove the lower thresholds for diabetes and kidney disease. [JAMA 2013; doi:10:1001/jama.2013.284430]

He added larger RCTs are needed to compare BP thresholds in different populations as well as a national consensus group to draft a new comprehensive practice guideline that would harmonize hypertension guideline with other cardiovascular risk guidelines. Finally, patients and physicians should work together to achieve BP goals.

While JNC 8 has gone extensive review by experts, it has not been evaluated or sponsored by any specialty societies such as the AHA and the ACC, a departure from the usual practice which has sparked some discussion.

In an accompanying editorial, Dr. Harold Sox of the Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice in Hanover, New Hampshire, US, said some aspects of the external review process may undermine public confidence. He said the guideline was not published in draft form to elicit public comments. [JAMA 2013; doi:10.1001/jama.2013.284429]

JAMA editor-in chief Dr. Howard Bauchner, in another editorial, acknowledged the areas of controversy and said that he anticipates debates and discussions regarding its clinical application. [JAMA 2013; doi:10.1001/jama.2013.284432]

GITA AND AHIMSA !

GITA AND AHIMSA !

being inspired by the gita, but somebody pointed out the fact that more than it being a metaphysical viewpoint of the human life and behaviours, gita situationally is a pro violent philosophy if not entirely, that being said to arjuna in war front when he was about to withdraw his weapons, where krishna advices to go to war with your teachers and spouses, who are for your very own land and kingdom, this philosophy bearing a contradiction to the gandhis ahimsa and satya, both which krishna says can be trespassed if it affects ones own survival,
this tatwa might be the driving force behind godse and all the hindutwa vadis, but we do fail to understand the fact that hindutwa is the guardian to all religion, the source from which all emanated, and so it bears testimony to the primal human instincts of 'HUNTING, WAR, COMPETITION' all the animal instincts i say, so a rational approach towards preserving our temples and country and scriptures would be beneficial for the future generations to live in a tolerant india....

GALENGA OFFICIONALIS

GALENGA OFFICIONALIS

G. officinalis has been known since the Middle Ages for relieving the symptoms of diabetes mellitus. Upon analysis, it turned out to contain compounds related to guanidine, a substance that decreases blood sugar by mechanisms including a decrease in insulin resistance, but were too toxic for human use. Georges Tanret identified an alkaloid from this plant, galegine, that was less toxic, and this was evaluated in unsuccessful clinical trials in patients with diabetes in the 1920s and 1930s.[3][2]

Other related compounds were being investigated clinically at this time, including biguanide derivatives. This work led ultimately to the discovery of metformin (Glucophage), currently used for the management of diabetes[4] and the older agent phenformin.[5] The study of galegine and related molecules in the first half of the 20th century is regarded as an important milestone in the development of oral antidiabetic pharmacotherapy.[6]

Happiness is one aspiration all people share. No one wants to be sad and depressed.

“Happiness is a habit – cultivate it.” ~ Elbert Hubbard

Happiness is one aspiration all people share. No one wants to be sad and depressed.

We’ve all seen people who are always happy – even amidst agonizing life trials. I’m not saying happy people don’t feel grief, sorrow or sadness; they just don’t let it overtake their life. The following are 21 things happy people make a habit of doing:

1. Appreciate Life

Be thankful that you woke up alive each morning. Develop a childlike sense of wonder towards life. Focus on the beauty of every living thing. Make the most of each day. Don’t take anything for granted. Don’t sweat the small stuff.

2. Choose Friends Wisely

Surround yourself with happy, positive people who share your values and goals. Friends that have the same ethics as you will encourage you to achieve your dreams. They help you to feel good about yourself. They are there to lend a helping hand when needed.

3. Be Considerate

Accept others for who they are as well as where they are in life. Respect them for who they are. Touch them with a kind and generous spirit. Help when you are able, without trying to change the other person. Try to brighten the day of everyone you come into contact with.

4. Learn Continuously

Keep up to date with the latest news regarding your career and hobbies. Try new and daring things that has sparked your interest – such as dancing, skiing, surfing or sky-diving.

5. Creative Problem Solving

Don’t wallow in self-pity. As soon as you face a challenge get busy finding a solution. Don’t let the set backs affect your mood, instead see each new obstacle you face as an opportunity to make a positive change. Learn to trust your gut instincts – it’s almost always right.

6. Do What They Love

Some statistics show that 80% of people dislike their jobs! No wonder there’s so many unhappy people running around. We spend a great deal of our life working. Choose a career that you enjoy – the extra money of a job you detest isn’t worth it. Make time to enjoy your hobbies and pursue special interests.

7. Enjoy Life

Take the time to see the beauty around you. There’s more to life than work. Take time to smell the roses, watch a sunset or sunrise with a loved one, take a walk along the seashore, hike in the woods etc. Learn to live in the present moment and cherish it. Don’t live in the past or the future.

8. Laugh

Don’t take yourself – or life to seriously. You can find humor in just about any situation. Laugh at yourself – no one’s perfect. When appropriate laugh and make light of the circumstances. (Naturally there are times that you should be serious as it would be improper to laugh.)

9. Forgive

Holding a grudge will hurt no one but you. Forgive others for your own peace of mind. When you make a mistake – own up to it – learn from it – and FORGIVE yourself.

10. Gratitude

Develop an attitude of gratitude. Count your blessings; All of them – even the things that seem trivial. Be grateful for your home, your work and most importantly your family and friends. Take the time to tell them that you are happy they are in your life.

11. Invest in Relationships

Always make sure your loved ones know you love them even in times of conflict. Nurture and grow your relationships with your family and friends by making the time to spend with them. Don’t break your promises to them. Be supportive.

12. Keep Their Word

Honesty is the best policy. Every action and decision you make should be based on honesty. Be honest with yourself and with your loved ones.

13. Meditate

Meditation gives your very active brain a rest. When it’s rested you will have more energy and function at a higher level. Types of meditation include yoga, hypnosis, relaxation tapes, affirmations, visualization or just sitting in complete silence. Find something you enjoy and make the time to practice daily.

14. Mind Their Own Business

Concentrate on creating your life the way you want it. Take care of you and your family. Don’t get overly concerned with what other people are doing or saying. Don’t get caught up with gossip or name calling. Don’t judge. Everyone has a right to live their own life the way they want to – including you.

15. Optimism

See the glass as half full. Find the positive side of any given situation. It’s there – even though it may be hard to find. Know that everything happens for a reason, even though you may never know what the reason is. Steer clear of negative thoughts. If a negative thought creeps in – replace it with a positive thought.

16. Love Unconditionally

Accept others for who they are. You don’t put limitations on your love. Even though you may not always like the actions of your loved ones – you continue to love them.

17. Persistence

Never give up. Face each new challenge with the attitude that it will bring you one step closer to your goal. You will never fail, as long as you never give up. Focus on what you want, learn the required skills, make a plan to succeed and take action. We are always happiest while pursuing something of value to us.

18. Be Proactive

Accept what can not be changed. Happy people don’t waste energy on circumstances beyond their control. Accept your limitations as a human being. Determine how you can take control by creating the outcome you desire – rather than waiting to respond.

19. Self Care

Take care of your mind, body and health. Get regular medical check ups. Eat healthy and work out. Get plenty of rest. Drink lots of water. Exercise your mind by continually energizing it with interesting and exciting challenges.

20. Self Confidence

Don’t try to be someone that you’re not. After all no one likes a phony. Determine who you are in the inside – your own personal likes and dislikes. Be confident in who you are. Do the best you can and don’t second guess yourself.

21. Take Responsibility

Happy people know and understand that they are 100% responsible for their life. They take responsibility for their moods, attitude, thoughts, feelings, actions and words. They are the first to admit when they’ve made a mistake.

Begin today by taking responsibility for your happiness. Work on developing these habits as you own. The more you incorporate the above habits into your daily lifestyle – the happier you will be.

" Nature"

THE POWER OF NATURE'S INFLUENCE

When you hear of the word " Nature", what comes to your mind ?, the meaning of nature that explains about your attitude and interests hidden within your unconscious OR the synonym that says nature as the self proclaiming force on Earth that is responsible for all creations. What comes to me is the popular force worshipped still around the Earth above Jesus and Krishna and the Allah ! Yeah its our very own Mother Nature ! We have evolved from Ramapithecus to Australopithecus to Homo nibulus to Homo erectus to Neanderthals. But still our main source of dietary nutrition includes fruits still. The very same fruits that remained millions of years ago, the only diffrence being that we have "learnt" to select a few, a very few to name considering the bio diversity we have on this earth , and to cultivate them . Man for his interests , more than his needs has altered the flora and fauna around him, majority of those have been thoroughly studied by him, and the nature is under humans manipulative interests.Man tries to isolate himself from nature, would like autonomy from nature, if it were possible, but forgets in the end that he himself is the nature.Nature cant be denied, and man continues to be influenced by nature.

Books to read for

Do you love to read? Your brain reacts differently when you read for fun rather than read critically. Recent research from Stanford showed that reading casually activates your brain’s pleasure center. When reading critically to analyze and understand the text, your brain shows increased activity in the prefrontal cortex, the area of your brain responsible for executive functions. Because your prefrontal cortex also plays a role in working memory, decision making and attention, scientists propose that reading critically could positively impact these functions. Share this post with friends and let us know your favorite book to challenge yourself with in the comments.

THE “NOT SO “ AAM AADMI PARTY !

THE “NOT SO “ AAM AADMI PARTY !

A year ago or two, a movement was started, which seemed, I reitrate that word seemed to create ripples in Indian political scenario. It was the anti corruption movement started by Anna Hazare following the foot steps of Gandhiji, reminding us of the freedom struggles we studied only in the history books. The movement gathered nation wide support due to the fact that they had no political lineations either with the left, centre or the right ! But a segment of that group diverted and formed  a new political party called The Aam Admi Party under the leadership of Arwind Kejriwal, which was so determined in its oath against corruption, touting it as the second freedom struggle. But the 49 days of AAP rule in New Delhi is a record in its own unique way. It was people’s rule ….mmmm….no I will say that way, it was a rule by people who wanted to do something for the people, who loved their people.Critics say it as an anarchy, but a good one I say. A very professional government I say, Struck literally to its election manifesto, great! The resignation as was said by Arwind Kejriwal later was a bad decision, in the sense that, if it had continued in power, the party could have got a root in the history of Delhi state politics, and catching on that tide they could have captured the centre. But in a country having occult roots of corruption from the basement till the roof, to cleanse, I say cleanse such a country of the stain will take his life time, and I think kejriwal was a bit too over ambitious ! The party has good leaders, very skillful persona, dynamic, exuberating, shining that in its first attempt itself they passed the exams with a distinction, but they forfeited the result blaming the university, what is this yaar ? Kuch to karo naa ! This is impotence from the part of AAP ! The news and posts about the lavish luxurious lifestyle of the AAP members wont do any good for them in the first palce, considering other leaders humble backgrounds ! India is not going to benefit anything from this hi class people, who certainly have the intent, but lack in content and experience, you have to gain in experience in any field. This time Modi wave will surely drown the AAP and the Congress mainly due to the rhetorics and determination of Modi.I wish the AAP had some spine and guts.

AHAM BRAHMASMI vs GOD MEN DILEMMA

Starting from the sai babas, the sankaracharyas, the sri sri ravi sankars, the mata amruthanandamayees, the dilemma or influence that such spiritual gurus have in our soceity is substantial, economically and socially. These people who happen to be human are worshipped as god. One thing is that, it puts a full stop even though a temporary full stop to humans concept of god or that even god is a concept, so human cannot worship any other thing other than himself as god.It may be the evolution of hinduism post modern era from veda to vedanta to idol worship to bhakti revolution to god man. The ocean of followers that these people have may be due to well planned and tried marketing techniques in addition to these gurus influence.I don’t see anything different in them, they are not even leaders! I don’t bother about such personas because they need not be. They don’t create any influence on me or havent created. They have no histories behind them, no stories of fighting against poverty or untouchability which are the problems plauging human soceity, they seem to behave out of worldly.like the Hindu gods in the puranas as Krishna, Rama,Siva, they have not fought any wars with ravans or rakshasas, not got any heroics, any skills, they are not at all impressive.Let them not misguide the soceity!

IMPORTANCE OF PATHYA IN AYURVEDA

Pathya, or the dietary restrictions to be followed while taking any ayurvedic medicenes is one of the peculiarities that separates ayurveda from the rest of alternative medications and allopathy. The generalised pathya that are followed presently while taking ayurvedic medicenes are, not to take oily and spicy food items, not to partake much of sour, salty and pungent food items, not to take non vegetarian food stuffs, not to stay awake during night, not to sleep during day hours, not to take excessive physical strain and the like.
In my view, all such restrictions or controls are aimed at regulating the overall metabolism of the body inorder for the medicene to be absorbed fastly and more efficiently. The pathya makes way, or clears the channels or srotasas in the body so as for the active pharmacological content of the medication to be efficiently absorbed. One universal rule in following pathya is to avoid fats, and to take  starch rich food in moderation according to ones digestive capacity or agni bala. This one pathya is particularly efficient because it reduces fat metabolism in the liver, creating more space for the starch rich kashayas and pills to be absorbed.Since ayurvedic drug is not that potent as is the allopathic drug which reaches the target cell immediately without having have to pass through the liver or the metabolism taking place only in the target cells, effective absorbtion is possible only when excessive metabolic load over the liver is withdrawn. So the pathya is all about regulating the metabolism as a whole through food control and restriction of all activities that may interfere with the metabolism.

MODI VS RAHUL

The battle for the hot seat is on. Its bjp vs congress…or modi vs rahul.Modi seems to be a worthy compititor to rahul , and in a sense , an efficient one.Modi s visionary approach , gives hope for many a Indians, who believe in one India, in bringing back India to the real place, the rural side.Rahul very much represents the urban Indian, one who cares for the facts, but he is an unused horse, with a nil track record, other than his patronage.Modi inspite of his self proclamation to be a hindu nationalist, and a blackmark of godhra massacre, has a proven track record of elevating gujarat, that being peoved by the fact that he is almost turning to be the Buddhadeb Bhattacharya of Gujarat. After the Atal bihari phenomena, bjp has finally found out its next eligible bachelor.Had some posed a challenge to Manmohan singh, his second tenure would have been doubtful. But this time, I think he would be thankful to handover the hot seat to the veteran.People would decide.

AYURVEDA, DRAWBACKS
Ayurveda has been upto an extent successful in managing with chronic life style diseases, which the patients believe has no side effects and would provide them with a better life if not the best. But inspite of enormous amounts of patients with auto immune diseases, degenerative and neurological disorders, spine related disorders coming to ayurveda from the allopathic stream of medicene, its development seems to be still in its infancy. The reason being unsystematised efforts, profit based institutions without any intentions to spread the knowledge, lack of genuine research on the subjects that need to be researched, lack of proper know how, lack of competent professionals etc. Many physicians still do carry with the same modality of cilnical diagnosis as mentioned in their texts of Susrutha, Charaka and Astanga Hrudaya with blindfolded belief, saying these where aptas and their words must not be put to introspection. The very concept of tridosa theory seems to be highly speculative to the beginner, and is enough to bog his spirits down. It does not satisfy his logic. The tri dosa theory is a working theory but who knows how to spot the dosic vitiations ? Who can spot out vata, pitta, kapha....these are just concepts intended to create an idea about the functioning of the human body. How can you treat diseases and diagnose a disease with just concepts, for arriving at a conclusion you need facts in the first place. These diagnostic tools are outdated for sure and should be abolished from the main stream. The ayurvedic concept of pathya in terms of ahara and vihara are very helpful in aiding the treatment course. They act as medicenes. Instead diagnosing a disease as vata rakta or ama vatha, one should essentially diagnose diseases in a universally accepted manner. Controls and standardisations must be brought into action to maintain a uniformity in the treatment schedules whereever ayurveda is done. For that research must be carried into that procedures which are still in practise in ayurveda that may pose harm for the body, or classify them as tretments with risk involved and use specialists only for those kind of treatments. The academics in ayurveda is just a waste of time with no use for the students, patients as well as teachers. Five and a half years of academics does not give you any idea about your profession, it does not enable you to treat a patient, you are not even able to handle even a simple case, just due to lack of confidence. The students dont know to communicate with the patients inorder to know the diseases , in which ever system they may diagnose, although they have the option to do so in allopathic way also, if not prescribe it ! Ayurveda must meet up with modern clinical standards, if it is meant in curing a disease. Then only can Ayurveda can gain some authenticity.

SACHIN-A PHENOMENA

Years back there was the tsunami which struk havoc in the east coast, a tsunami that sturk the world a quarter of a century back, brought nightmares to even the bowlers who bombarded the pitch at devils pace. He was like an angel, the crickets own sweet child. Controlled agression, letting the bat do the talk!
Critics of him were not heard. The story very much a fancy tale.He is one in a billion.Nobody would be able to match this batting maestro. He was touted the bradman next.Cricket gained from this gentleman, earned its respect, inspite of several scams involving the match fixing and spot fixing. Cricket became popular round the world which has evolved now to t20.

Not much of a match winner he was, he was known for his innings, the records he broke. An average captain he was, but his presence was signified , he has scored around 30,000 odd runs for india, that too at a time when India was just an average team.India now has talents, galore, but none has made impact amongst the masses as was sachin.
